I apologize for this week’s post being so late! I was chained to a dog crate at the Dogs Deserve Better Chain-Off in Nashville, TN all day yesterday, where I got poured on and nearly frozen to death. As a result I spent half the day today feeling like I’d been trampled by large hoofed animals. Let’s just say I’m even more adamant in my belief that keeping dogs chained or confined outside all the time is inhumane.

Meet Shep

Shep is being fostered by a friend of mine who works with Greyhound Pets of America – Nashville. He is likely a German Shepherd/Chow mix and gets along well with her sight hounds, though he prefers the company of people. He was found on the roadside, but has quickly adapted to the life of an indoor dog and is fully house-trained. Shep is playful, knows a number of commands, and would make a great running or hiking partner!

I was recently contacted by a couple people on Facebook regarding dogs in need of forever homes. This week and next I’ll be featuring those pups. If you know an animal who needs help, please let me know!

Meet Daisy and Charity

These sweet girls, who appear to be pit mixes, aren’t a set, but they’re currently staying at at the same boarding facility in Fort Worth, Texas.

Daisy (on the right) is about six years old, and when she was found, she had a large cable almost embedded in her neck. She is happy and healthy now, and loves women, though she takes a little while to warm up to men. She would do best in a one-dog household and shouldn’t be around cats. She is quiet when not around other dogs, and has quite the charming smile!

Charity (on the left) was found on a playground, surrounded by children who were kicking her, but she never retaliated because she was too tired from having given birth. She is six or seven years old, but is full of energy! She loves cuddling, kissing, and getting her belly rubbed, and will stay by your side all day.

Both Daisy and Charity have been spayed, are up-to-date on shots, and are on heart worm preventative.

Gaëlle has kindly offered to draw this week’s sketch! She drew this adorable one of Dudley a couple months back, but he was adopted after she drew the sketch and before the post was scheduled to go up!

Meet Fancy

Fancy is a female boxer, 18-24 months old. She has been spayed and it up to date on all her shots. The Petfinder page doesn’t give details about her previous situation, but given that she was emaciated when rescued, it’s clear that she was mistreated. She still has to gain more weight and is a bit skittish around some other dogs, but despite all that she’s great with people and loves to run and play. Dogs’ ability to forget the past and enjoy the present will never cease to amaze me!

Hey all! I know, I know, we keep promising to keep up but since move we’ve done practically nothing. Lucky for us, it’s a brand new year! That’s right, we get a fresh start and we’re going to make the best of it! I’ve decided that on top of personal resolutions, I need to make some for I Love Rescue Animals as well. With your help, I know we can achieve all of them!

1. Keep Up With Organization and Shelter/Rescue of the Month spotlights
2. Post At Least Twice Per Month
3. Recruit At Least One Guest Writer Per Month
4. Start the “Rescue Animal of the Week” Section
5. Get Last Chance Pets twitter accounts for all 50 states!
6. Start a Facebook Fan Page for I Love Rescue Animals
7. Start the “Brody Fund” (this one may be the hardest…)
8. Collect Half the Shirts Needed For the 365 Days of Animal Advocacy Project

So there they are, my resolutions for Rescue Animals. Some of them seem small, others are bigger, but I’m hoping I (along with Nikki and all of you) can manage to keep them all. It’ll be a challenge but that’s always something I’m up for!

So what are your animal related resolutions? They can be personal or for your group/organization/rescue/whatever. I’d love to know the hopes and aspirations of the animal rescue community out there so let me know below! Maybe you’ll spark ideas for others!
