Shelter Sketches: Meet Sam

I just started fostering a new dog this weekend, so things have been a bit hectic. He’s an extremely obese, cranky chihuahua who needs some doggy boot camp, so our local humane society contacted me, haha!

Meet Sam

Sam is an adult male lab mix who was taken in by Noah’s Ark Rescue months ago. He was extremely emaciated and covered in old and new bite wounds, so he may have been used as a bait dog. He nearly died from kidney failure due to everything his body had been through, but now he is happy and healthy! You can read more of his amazing story here.

Sam is sweet and gentle and loves everyone. His rescuers think he’s between 2 and 5 years old. I don’t know about you, but I would love to give this boy a forever home.

Shelter Sketches: Meet Bentley

It’s still the weekend! I’m not too late. 😉

Meet Bentley

Last weekend I helped transport several dogs on a their journey north, and I fell completely in love with the droopy-faced black lab who sat in the passenger seat next to me. His name was Dustin at the time, but now he’s called Bentley, and he’s an absolute sweetheart. He’s in an awesome foster home now, but he needs a forever home.

Bentley’s foster mother had some wonderful things to say, so I’ll just let her speak for him:

Bentley is a sweet boy. He loves to go for carrides and just curls up in my backseat to sleep the whole ride. We weren’t given much history from the shelter in Alabama. From what I can gather, he was a stray picked up by animal control. He has several abrasions in various stages of healing and a nasty laceration on his left ear (supposedly from getting his head stuck under a chain link fence during transport) but he is starting antibiotics for that. He was neutered about three weeks ago. His shots are up to date. He has huge paws and is super skinny (they say only 58 lbs!) so definitely has some filling out to do. Bentley most definitely has a puppy personality – he is full of energy, loves to play, and is so, so curious about everything. He likes to go on walks and chases butterflies and crickets. He is social with other dogs (he met my other two Labs today) and he is friendly to everyone he meets. He has NO manners and no skills or tricks; we are starting from scratch with him. He is learning to walk on a leash and we are working on housebreaking. Bentley is also being crate trained; he doesn’t mind spending time in his crate at all. He is also learning to sit. He loves to play ball and he swings his rope toy around like a mad man. Even with as much energy and eagerness that he has, he is also just as content to rest quietly by your feet while you watch TV or eat dinner. He’s never shown any aggressiveness. Just a very sweet boy.
