365DAA Day 28: PetSafe Ethos Fund

Sometimes you come across a business that doesn’t just want to help make better pet owners, they also want to make life better to those pets that don’t have owners. The PetSafe Ethos Fund was created by PetSafe to raise money for animal shelters and charities and to help rehabilitate those rescue dogs with behavioral issues. I absolutely love their motto: “The best years of my life are measured in dog years.” So very very true.

About PetSafe Ethos Fund

At PetSafe our culture is one of passion for pets, their owners and improving the communities where they live. While dogs and cats contribute positively and uniquely to our quality of life, humans often exhibit “selective care” to pets, most often due to behavior issues. At PetSafe, we believe in doing everything we can to enjoy more best moments with pets. We are committed to delivering products and resources to solve behavioral issues to help pets and owners live in harmony and make homeless more adoptable.

Our PetSafe Ethos program provides funds to animal welfare groups to support the care of homeless pets and rehabilitation of pets with behavioral issues. While charitable donations of all sizes are welcomed, to help further promote our fund we will send you this “Happy Dog” t-shirt as a thank-you for all donations of $25 or more.

Our Ethos “Happy Dog” shirts let our charitable donors show-off their own ethos that says we are all a part of changing “selective care” to unconditional care of pets. 100% of the proceeds go to help this cause.

365DAA Day 27: Humane Society of New York

If your rescue or shelter needs some tips on how to fundraise, I would suggest checking out our next group: the Humane Society of New York. Just take a look at their website and you can see everything they do to help the animals in their care. Thank you to Becca for sending us a shirt to support this group!

About the Humane Society of New York

For over 100 years, the Humane Society of New York has been a presence in New York City, caring for animals in need when illness, injury or homelessness strikes. In 1904 we were founded to protect the city’s horses against abuse. Members fought for laws to punish negligent owners and place watering troughs in streets and parks. As funds allowed the Society expanded to include a free medical clinic and a small adoption center for cats and dogs. Today our hospital and our Vladimir Horowitz and Wanda Toscanini Horowitz Adoption Center help more than 34,000 dogs and cats annually, and their numbers continue to grow.

At the Society, the quality of each animal’s life is paramount. Long before it was popular to think of animals as individuals – to consider their physical and emotional needs when taking responsibility for their care – we were doing just that. That means every day, every dog gets exercise time in the rooftop run, and the chance to walk outdoors with staff and volunteers. Cats enjoy daily play sessions outside their kennels. This very personal care is fully as important to a pet’s well being as the inoculations, spay/neuter and other veterinary care provided during its stay in the adoption center. “This doesn’t feel like a shelter” remark many visitors to the Society. “It feels like a home.”

365DAA Day 26: Lake Superior Paws for Love

I am so excited for this group! When Ash and I lived in Ashland, Wisconsin, Spunky (our handsome mascot), was in training for and earned his Canine Good Citizenship. This was the start to a journey that is still continuing on here in Austin – making Spunky a therapy dog. Anyway, after becoming CGC certified, we joined this awesome group called Lake Superior Paws for Love and met some amazing people at the library in the neighboring town of Washburn. Unfortunately, we moved to Tennessee shortly after and didn’t get to finish Spunky’s therapy training, but I loved the people we got to work with and I’m so happy to have gotten a shirt to support them! Thanks Cyndi for getting them in touch with us!

365DAA Day 25: Star’s Rat Rescue

Today’s group may look familiar to you. A few weeks ago, Chelsea did a Shelter Sketch featuring the Three Caballeros and they are from Star’s Rat Rescue! As proud mommies to five rescue rats, we LOVE this group and so glad to support an awesome rat rescue!

About Star’s Rat Rescue

Our love for rats and helping others was the deciding factor in opening Star’s Rat Rescue. We started our rescue in early 2008 as there was a big need for a rescue in South Dakota, we had many people contacting us to rescue their rats and find them new loving and forever homes!

Star’s Rat Rescue takes in rats that people can no longer care for, due to allergies, moving or whatever the reason and re-home them to loving forever homes. We run completely off of donations from our adopters, our online store, and out of our own pocket.

Newly rescued rats are keep in quarantine for 2 weeks before being able to be adopted out, to make sure there are no illnesses that need to be addressed. This is a Pre-caution we take with all rats!

Because SRR is a small and private rescue, we can only take in so many rats. We do our best and take in as many as possible and if SRR is unable to take in rats, we will help find them good homes.

We hope to be able to re-home as many “rescues” as possible and with the on-going support and commitment from the public and adopters we will be able to care for more Rats. However, we will not euthanase healthy animals just so we can rescue more. If SRR is unable to re-home we will personally keep those rescues for the rest of their natural lives.

365DAA Day 24: Almost Home Foundation

Today’s group is brought to us by the lovely Kim Thomas of CindyLu’s Muse. It’s the Almost Home Foundation! Here’s Kim to tell us how she got involved with this awesome group:

“Honestly, I never thought I would have “the stuff” to become a volunteer for an animal rescue group. After all, what did I know? I’d had one dog while growing up, and my parents were both novices in pet parenting. When I moved out on my own, my fiancé talked me into getting a cat. I had zero knowledge of what to do with a cat. When she started leaving trails of blood, I thought my poor Ali was dying. Rushing her to the vet, I found out she’d never been spayed by her original owners. I did take in a few more cats after her, but I still didn’t know zip about animals. Love them? You bet. But that was it. So when my neighbors-turned-good-friends requested my “help” in not only assisting at adoption events for the rescue group they belonged to, Almost Home Foundation, but also fostering kitties in my home – yikes. I figured it would be a very short run; it surely wouldn’t take much to show I had no experience!

It wasn’t long before our house was full of kitties waiting for their forever homes. We took in litters of babies, so the household was hopping and we were constantly entertained by the adorable little ones. I found myself immersed in the activities of the rescue group, making incredible new friends, fascinated by the stories each of these animals had, and sincerely wanting to do whatever I could. Each day, each week, each cat…whatever I did, I received three-fold in return. The sense of fulfillment you get from rolling up your sleeves, diving in, doing something to make a difference is incredible! And it did not require any special skills, education or expertise. Amazing! The more I do, the more I learn. The more I learn, the more I want to do…and there is nothing to block it, because what is required, what you must have to volunteer with animals, is simply a desire to do so. The details work themselves out. My advice to anyone who loves animals and has a few minutes a week or more to spare for them? Just do it. You have what it takes. Make a call or visit your local shelter or rescue group. The animals are waiting for you.”

About Almost Home Foundation

“Almost Home Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit, no-kill dog and cat rescue organization; there are absolutely no paid personnel in this group, everyone gives from the heart. Since its founding in 2005, it has grown to become one of the largest animal rescue groups in the northwest Chicago area. All dogs and cats are cared for in foster homes until they are adopted; although the organization does not have a shelter, the organization looks forward to the opportunity of building one soon, knowing it would mean the chance to rescue that many more pets.”
