Shelter Sketches: Meet A179217

I know that it doesn’t matter to animals if they have names or not. That said, it’s still sad to see whole pages of cats and dogs on Petfinder who are sorted in the same way we might sort books in a library or merchandise in a store. I’m reminded of something that Gandhi once said:

“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”

Meet A179217

A179217 is a young male Domestic Short Hair, and is neutered.

Chelsea Conlin is a freelance fantasy illustrator, but if she can help spread the word about animals in need with her skills, she’s more than happy to do so! She currently lives in Kentucky with her husband where they do what they can by driving dog rescue transports on weekends. They have two dogs of their own: a rescue greyhound named Storm and a mixed breed named Azu. You can find her at Paper Nautilus, her sketchblog, twitter, and deviantart.

ILRA Interviewed on PawScoop

Hey everyone, there is a fabulous interview with me and Ashley up over at PawScoop.com! It’s part of a series of interviews that Ross conducted with all the nominees for the DogTime Petties Awards (have you voted for us yet?). Take a moment and read about why we started this site, what continues to inspire us, and what we’ve learned along the way. Great interview and thank you to Ross for the awesome questions. Check out the interview over here and tell us what you think!

Shelter Sketches: Meet Michael

I thought I would play around with some rough shading and textures in this sketch. It’s certainly a contrast to last week’s stylized line work. What style of sketches do you all prefer?

Meet Michael

Michael is a one year old male Cane Corso, which means he is going to be a very big boy! I’m of the opinion that bigger dogs = more cuddles, though, so I don’t think I’d be able to resist this guy if I still lived in NY. His Petfinder page says that Michael will thrive in his forever home and be your faithful companion. He will be responsive to positive reinforcement training. Our experienced staff is available to talk with you, answer your questions and provide advice on how to transition him to your home. Michael is neutered, dewormed, treated to prevent fleas & ticks and is up to date with vaccinations. His adoption fee is $200.00 and he’ll get one free exam at our vet’s office, one free month of pet health insurance and a microchip.

Shelter Sketches: Meet Hero

Hi everyone! Sorry for the lack of a sketch last weekend. Hopefully this extra scruffy and adorable pup will make up for it.

Meet Hero

Hero is a male Schnauzer, probably about 2 1/2 years old. There’s not much information about him, other than that he has been vet checked, neutered, microchipped and all his shots are current. He certainly looks like he’d be the life of the party, though!
